The COVID-19 pandemic is not only affecting the global economy but is also exacerbating existing gender inequalities. The social, economic, and health consequences are disproportionately impacting the lives of women, girls and other marginalized groups such as older persons, persons with disabilities, LBTQ+ and those in extreme poverty.

In Sri Lanka, during the time of COVID-19 pandemic there were many issues and impacts overcome from the women society in Sri Lanka. The assessment focuses on conducting a comprehensive Assessment of the Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Women and Girls. The Covid-19 pandemic has superior hits on women’s usual lives.

The project aims to examine and identifying major impacts of Covid-19 on women and girls covering the areas of gender-based violence, socio-economic conditions of women and girls, loss of jobs, effects on women’s health/ wellbeing and education, gap challenges in the health and social protection system, media reportage. At the end of this assessment UNFPA are intend to give practical recommendations to avoid these impacts which affects to the women and girls.
