This assignment comes under the IDA funded Agriculture Modernization project which is focused on “supporting structural shifts in the economy and improved living standards and social inclusion through a) Improving agriculture productivity and competitiveness b) providing and strengthening rural livelihood sources, employment opportunities in agriculture and in the agriculture value chain, provide market access etc. c) Contribute to flood and drought management. The broad scope of the assignment is, “To carry out Training Need Assessment (TNA) for farmer producer organizations in the project areas and develop detailed training modules based on the determined training needs”.
MTS’ role was to carry out Training Need Assessment (TNA) for farmer producer organizations in the project areas and develop detailed training modules based on the determined training needs for the said project. The multiple devices and sources were used for collection of qualitative and quantitative data for this evaluation. Further, background information, secondary data and field data relevant to the project operating districts were gathered from various sources. These included a comprehensive literature survey, web surfing and a desk study covering Project Appraisal Document (PAD), published reports of the ministry and other agencies, district statistical data on registration of FOs, and resource profiles of the targeted FOs. A field study was conducted to collect quantitative data on training needs of the FPOs in the sample drawn from the seven project districts. The field study consisted of a questionnaire which was developed based on the objectives of the TNA, was used to collect primarily quantitative information from FPOs.
